Orchestra
WSHS offers the following courses and extra curricular opportunities in Orchestra:
Beginning Orchestra:
Beginning Orchestra is for students in all grade levels, who have never taken an orchestra class before or who have played in the past, stopped and want to come back to the instrument or class. Students will learn string and musical fundamentals through rehearsals and performances and will perform a variety of musical genres.
Intermediate Orchestra (Varsity Orchestra):
Varsity Orchestra is inclusive of all students, primarily 9th grade students or students taking a secondar instrument. Varsity Orchestra performs a variety of musical genres. Students will learn string and musical fundamentals through rehearsals and performances.
- Any student can join who has either taken beginning orchestra or was enrolled in their Middle School orchestra class
Concert Orchestra:
Concert Orchestra is an intermediate ensemble open to students in grades 10-12. Concert Orchestra performs a variety of musical genres. For students who love music, as well as students who seek to enrich their knowledge of music fundamentals. The ensemble is open 9th grades by audition only. Advanced Orchestra – Sinfonietta Orchestra:
Advanced Orchestra is for more advanced string players in grades 10-12 who want to further their music studies through performance of the most challenging orchestral music. The ensemble is open 9th grades by audition only.
- By audition only; auditions will take place in May/June for the following year
Symphony Orchestra – Extra Curricular Ensemble:
Symphony Orchestra is open to intermediate to advanced string students and advanced band students in grades 9-12 who want to further their music studies through performance with symphonic music. The orchestra works on ensemble skills and plays a variety of genres.
- This is an after-school group that meets in the fall and spring.
- This ensemble is made up for students in band and orchestra and we play full orchestra/symphony music.
