Bridge Bulletin 9.25.2021

Message From Mrs. Abney

I would like to thank our students, staff members, and the entire WSHS community for the incredible support shown over the last week after the sudden passing of Mr. Moore, a beloved math teacher, football coach, and all-around amazing man. We united to support one another through our grief, and we will continue to be there for each other in the weeks and months to come.

Support for Students in Advance Courses

Our goal in advanced academics is to not only ensure that students have access to rigorous coursework and the opportunity to challenge themselves academically but also provide students with the support they may need to grow in these courses. Ms. Spindler is our Advanced Academics Student Support Coordinator and is here to help students access resources to ensure success in advanced courses.  Sometimes that means a student may need help balancing a heavier workload, finding a peer tutor, or accessing on-demand support.  Should you or your student need additional resources or support in the advanced courses, please do not hesitate to reach out to Ms. Spindler via email at SpindlKS@pwcs.edu.  See this flyer.

Viking Learning Center Tutors

Students interested in tutoring in the Viking Learning Center should plan to attend a tutor training session on either Tuesday, September 28th or Thursday September 30th. The training will begin at 2:20 and finish by 3:00. Please meet in room 1007. Reach out to Ms. Terrill (terrilse@pwcs.edu) if you have any questions

Donations Needed

The Drama Club is in need of some prop and building materials for upcoming productions. If you have (a) artificial flowers or greenery and/or (b) barnwood (weathered planks about 1/2" thick), please consider donating them for use in our productions. Contact: fioreda@pwcs.edu

Early Dismissals and Absence Notes

We are going paperless! Absence notes can now be done on ParentVue and by email to attendancewshs@pwcs.edu.  Early dismissals can be done via email but NOT ParentVue.  Please email attendancewshs@pwcs.edu with EARLY DISMISSAL in the subject line.  This can be done in advance and up to 2 hours before the requested dismissal time.  Requests will be processed and students can meet the parent/guardian outside Door 1 at the requested time.  If the request is under 2 hours, the parent/guardian will need to come into the office to sign the student out.  More information about Early Dismissals and other Attendance Procedures can be found here.

Purple Star

The Virginia Purple Star designation is awarded to military-friendly schools that have shown a major commitment to student families connected to our nation's military.

WSHS's Purple Viking Program is a student-led, faculty-advised program whose goal is to help those new military students transition and learn about resources and services in our community and to connect and support them throughout their time at our school.

Mrs. Nicole Etienne is the Program Coordinator and LTC Victor Burnette is the Student Ambassador Coordinator.

College & Career Fair

Wooodbridge Senior High School will be hosting the College and Career Fair  on September 27th from 6pm-8pm

Transportation

As you are aware, there is a severe shortage of bus drivers in our county and others.  Transportation is trying their best to cover their routes and many times running a double route.  Starting Monday, we will be sending out a text message to alert parents of any buses that might be running late.  We thank you for your patience.
