Bridge Bulletin 1.29.2022

Message From Mrs. Abney

It is hard to believe we are halfway through the school year. I would like to thank our students for a great first semester. While we have certainly had our challenges, our students continue to amaze me with their resilience.

As we begin the second semester, we will continue to offer various resources to support our students. This information will be in Canvas as well as on our school website. Additionally, we will be reminding students of classroom expectations here at WSHS. After returning to in-person learning we have noticed an increase with cell phone distractions during classroom instruction. Since every student now has their own school issued laptop, students will be reminded to put their cell phones and listening devices away when each class begins.

2022-2023 Academic Advising

We are already planning for next year and as a result, academic advising for 2022-2023 has begun. The teachers at Woodbridge Senior High School entered course recommendations as a guide to assist with the course selection process. You will have the opportunity to electronically submit course requests from Monday, January 31st – Sunday, February 6th. Students will be able to view their teachers’ recommendations in StudentVue prior to making course selections. The counseling department will begin meeting with students individually the week of February 14th to finalize course selections. The individual meetings will conclude in March. After meeting with alpha assigned counselors, students will have various opportunities to adjust course selections on or before Friday, June 10th. Counselors will also schedule Zoom meetings with students that are virtual only learners this school year to conduct individualized academic advising appointments. An instructional video has been created to assist with the course selections and the link for the video is listed below.

Touch Base

Update on Touch Base (Parent/Teacher Conference) program), which was planned to be held on Monday, February 7. Due to the number of weather-related closures we have had this year, our spring Touch Base program will be canceled to allow schools to make the most out of the instructional time left in the semester. February 7 will now serve as a normal instructional day with normal school hours and bus schedules. However, the cancellation of the program does not limit parent opportunities to meet with their student’s teachers. If a parent-teacher conference is desired, parents are encouraged to reach out to their student’s school counselor to schedule an in-person meeting or email their student’s teacher to schedule time for a virtual conference via Zoom or telephone. As always, our school staff remains available and ready to assist in creating intervention and support plans to aid student growth and achievement.
