About the Program:
The gifted program is intended to provide extension and opportunities for growth for students whose intellectual needs aren't being fully met in their mainstream classes. The program consists primarily of a pull out program, in which they are invited to seminars which are held approximately every other week to work with the 21st century skills, namely communication, collaboration, critical thinking, and creativity.
To participate in this program, first the student must be referred, either by a parent, teacher, or by the student himself. We will create an identification portfolio for the student which will then go before the identification and placement committee, which meets every other month. To begin this process, students and their parents will need to complete a few pieces of paperwork and return them to the school. Once this is done, we will move forward with putting together the rest of the identification folder. You will be notified in writing of the committee's placement.
If you would like to take the next steps to proceed with the identification process, you will need to fill out and return the following forms:
- Referral form-this form is you formally requesting that Isiah be evaluated for gifted services
- Permission form-this form gives us permission to test Isiah using intelligence tests and to gather his records and reports from his teachers.
- Parent report-this is for you to tell us about Isiah and what traits you see in him
- Student response-Isiah will fill this out to tell us a bit about himself, his interests, and his strengths and weaknesses.
When all of these forms are returned we will move forward with the identification process. They can be returned to Mrs. LaPlant in room 2220 or sent to the school marked to her attention.
